RacingLine Performance have been developing high quality performance hardware parts for nearly two decades - firmly establishing ourselves as the hardware brand of choice for Volkswagen Group vehicles.  But we aren’t stopping there.

We have been working flat out over the past two years to develop what we believe to be simply the best ECU Software Upgrades and TCU DSG Transmission Software in the VWG market, conceived from a very different approach. By bringing together a full suite of carefully developed software, all matched to work in perfect harmony with our ever-growing range of hardware, we truly believe that RacingLine Performance can offer customers the most complete range of upgrades for their VWG car.

Our new Software Upgrade range is named OEM+. This name reflects the investment that we’ve put in to developing our software in a new way – using OEM calibration techniques to deliver not only great power and beautiful torque increases, but also to uphold our responsibility to preserve the smoothest calibrations, within factory safety levels, whilst keeping economy good. It's only by reprogramming the very basis of the controller itself that we can achieve the results we get - just as the manufacturers themselves work.

It’s what our engineers have been doing on our race, rally and track cars for the past 20 years, but taking this extensive experience and applying it to road cars.

We're in final development stages now, with Beta testing going on in different markets around the world.  We'll be launching soon!

Whereas most aftermarket tuners rely on some degree of trial and error to uplift a few variables in the standard map, our OEM+ approach is to start again from scratch and build each calibration up from there. Only by reprogramming the very basis of the controller itself can we achieve the results we get - just as the manufacturers themselves work.

HOW DOES OEM+ PERFORMANCE SOFTWARE WORK?

  Our OEM+ Performance Software is simply the most effective modification you can make to a modern turbocharged engine. Every aspect of an engine’s behaviour is controlled by the calibration software installed on the Engine Control Unit (ECU), your car’s computer.

///  Your car's original factory software is developed to suit mass production.  And of course, as with anything mass-produced for a global market, there is a huge tolerance margin to ensure consistency in performance regardless of variables: criteria such as the country the car is used in, the fuel quality there, altitude, production tolerances and even simple marketing reasons to differentiate between a manufacturer’s different models.

///  All of which leaves us with a lot of headroom to rewrite each car type’s ECU calibration to set the engine’s true capabilities free.  It’s what we’ve been doing for two decades on our race and rally cars, but now refined for road.

///  Each new calibration dramatically increases power and torque levels throughout the rev-range, making for a noticeably quicker and more exciting drive. But through our all-important OEM+ approach to our recalibrations, we also spend as much time enhancing the driveability of your car, providing smooth, progressive power whilst always maintaining the extensive factory safety mechanisms.

  Smooth, driveable, safe and fast.  These are our four key criteria to meet for every one of our OEM+ calibrations. Combining our unrivalled motorsport mapping experience with an in-depth understanding of the way that the manufacturer calibrates the car, cultivated over years of relationships cultivated with the OEM suppliers, we are fully confident that every OEM+ calibration delivers against these four criteria.  

///  Many aftermarket remaps concentrate on ‘peak power’ numbers.  This is never the best way to choose a calibration for your car. Whilst every OEM+ calibration is highly competitive on its peak power numbers, this is only part of our development picture. As our motorsport experience has taught us, a fast car is always a driveable car – with a strong torque spread throughout the rev range, and a progressive power delivery profile.  As the laws of physics define, it’s the area under the curve that matters.

///  The all-important factory protection limits, set to deliver protection when extreme engine conditions are triggered, are of course all fully respected and maintained in each of our OEM+ calibrations – not something that lesser remaps can always claim.... OEM+ Performance Software will never overstress the inherent hardware systems to the point of pushing turbochargers and other heat sensitive engine components beyond their intended use to achieve “pub figures” that real world use will so often result in poor on track or on road performance.

TEST & DEVELOPMENT


///  The R&D sign-off process to develop each OEM+ calibration is amongst the most thorough in the world.

///  All OEM+ calibrations have been developed on both dynamometer and through extensive real-world field tests.  Calibrations are tested in all our major global markets before sign-off, bring great variances of altitudes, fuel octane quality, ambient temperature and even road conditions incorporated into our development process.

///  Track testing also forms a large part of our OEM+ development procedure, particularly for every higher powered Stage 2 and above calibration.  There is still no real world challenge greater than long track runs with one of our racing/test drivers, pushing oil and water temperatures to the max, and challenging each calibration with increasing intake temperatures.

///  Throughout each OEM+ calibration development, we have worked very hard to integrate our Performance Parts hardware range to work in perfect harmony on your car.  No other tuner can offer our range of carefully-matched hardware and software for your peace of mind.

///  Unlike many, the OEM+ delivery mechanism allows the car to be returned to 'true stock' at any time.  This feature also allows us to overwrite any other aftermarket calibrations, by first putting the car back to standard.

OUR OEM+ DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY

WHY IS VWR OEM+ PERFORMANCE SOFTWARE DIFFERENT?

Our OEM+ Performance Software engine and transmission tuning follows the same development philosophy as every one of the Racingline Performance Parts products. Only by proving extreme reliability and performance in our motorsport environments can we then tailor those results specifically to road car applications.  

Racingline has cultivated relationships with OEM suppliers for years through our motorsport programmes and by providing valuable Tier 1 services to the manufacturers.  This has given Racingline unique access to many of the same engineering teams and supplier engineering firms used by the manufacturer of your vehicle over many years.  

As such, Racingline is uniquely positioned to create engine and transmission OEM+ Performance Software products that tap in to a vast knowledge base and resources not typically available in the aftermarket.   Why does this make us different?  Well, most aftermarket tuners rely on their in-house abilities to reverse engineer engine and transmission control units and learn from a high level of assembly backwards in order to understand the systems and control strategies. Through experimentation and some degree of trial and error, they discover changes, manipulations or exploits in a selection of variables in order to achieve their desired results.  Which can often be quite effective in terms of peak power once 'wound up', but are often very crude in terms of smoothness of the calibration and therefore drivability. We've also seen many examples of tuners failing to respect the powertrain's all-important factory protection hardware limits. In other words, a very, very different calibration quality to what the manufacturer would ever approve for your car themselves. 

Racingline’s software follows a different approach.  Whenever the OEM wishes to develop an engine or transmission management system for a desired result, the very basis of the controller itself is adapted to accomplish the OEM’s goal.  For example, when an  Engine Management System is required for a 400bhp engine, their calibrators adapt and produce software for their control units that are designed from the outset to deliver 400bhp; they do not start with designs intended for 300bhp and attempt to manipulate high level tuning areas of the controller to get there.  

Can you imagine Volkswagen developing their OEM 300bhp calibration on Golf R by 'tweaking' a Golf GTI map?  Of course not, and neither would we.

Our two decades of motorsport experience has been dominated by the need for speed, repeatability and reliability. This has instilled in us the RacingLine philosophy that our OEM+ Performance Software will never overstress the inherent hardware systems to the point of pushing turbochargers, coolings systems or other heat sensitive engine components too far beyond their intended use.  

Racingline’s software therefore achieves operating characteristics and power delivery very similar to the results of the OEM and maintains the emotions and spirit of the driving experience that motivated you to purchase the vehicle in the first place but with greater levels of enjoyment and performance. Hence why we have chosen to name our Performance Software range OEM+.

///  We are particularly proud of our OEM+ Flashing Suite delivery system for our dealer network to intall your new calibration.  Our PLUSWire connection into any Windows laptop/tablet is easy and intuitive to use, and gives quick and secure downloads.  

///  Uniquely, there is an onboard memory built-in to the PLUSWire connector itself. Why? It means that your dealer can remap cars offline by downloading your new calibration into the lead first, greatly reducing the risk of a faulty download wherever the internet connection hangs or isn’t robust.  We have also built-in the ability to return the car back to true stock through PLUSWire. So, our super-robust system is all designed to make our dealers lives as easy as possible to give you the best possible experience, right first time.

///  As with all tuning products, your car's manufacturer warranty cannot be guaranteed to be maintained after addition or modification of any sort.  However, Racingline has employed every precaution possible to help maintain a dealership diagnostic friendly experience.  Your Racingline partner or local Dealership representative can give the best advice on how OEM+ tuning may effect your manufacturer warranty.  For the greatest level of confidence in assisting your dealer, programming your ECU back to the exact state it was in prior to installation of OEM+ Performance Tuning is possible at all Racingline Partners prior to your service appointments. 

the OEM+ DELIVERY MECHANISM - the technical side


///  Racingline’s OEM+ tuning delivery mechanism is a powerful and robust programming suite that reads and writes to each controller as similarly as possible to the OEM systems.  We have gone to great lengths to automate the process as much as possible to provide an extremely user friendly installation method.  

Due to Racingline’s OEM+ unique approach to ECU tuning that starts with setting the new performance goal from the ground up, the tuning delivery system installs complete binaries to each controller with the exception of the One Time Programmable, EPROM and EEPROM areas that are specific to each car and must be read out and maintained in order to insure vehicle serialization and configuration integrity.  

As binary sizes can be up to and sometimes more than 4mb, OEM+ installation times vary from 5 minutes to 12 minutes.  

OEM+’s flash tool performs all the heavy lifting without reliance on an internet connection to maintain communication with the controller at all times.  Uniquely the flash tool boasts a powerful internal processor, a large amount of onboard storage and state of the art circuit board design and production.  

Future proofing and flexibility for new applications was a core design requirement of the OEM+ flash tool without requiring recurring expense to our partners around the world for costly new hardware devices and redesigns.  The flash tool in itself is powerful enough to run an entire Operating System and incorporates an expansion port for external bench flashing if new applications are unable to be programmed via the On Board Diagnostics port.
