We believe the design of our OEM+ Stage 3 kit to be the smartest on the market for the MQB-platform, as it reuses the stock factory IHI turbocharger housing as its base. The internals, however, are redesigned from scratch with our own turbine wheel and high-spec bearing pack to safely accommodate the increased power level.
Why've we designed it this way? Well, not only does this mean that you can exchange your stock turbo for our Stage 3 kit, but also installation is simple and concern-free, as it reuses every factory fitment, oil line and coolant connections and even factory gaskets. And if you already have a performance downpipe and intake system, it's all resuable with our Stage 3.
Power and drivability is exceptional. Power has been exceeding 500bhp with ease with this set-up in our dynamic testing, although we will be offering our full kit with our OEM+ Performance Software to deliver a little less - but still a safe and repeatable 480bhp - a power level which the MQB engine and drivetrain can accommodate time and time again.
Power gains are nothing short of sensational. Our Stage 3 kit is well capable of delivering up to 510bhp - although our production version will offer a slightly safer level of over 450bhp, leaving plenty in reserve.
Our Stage 3 kit is not just about bolting a big turbo on. It comes with all of our matched hardware parts, all developed alongside one another to ensure perfect matching of components, right first time.
One of the main appeals for our OEM+ software is that it is all developed alongside our unrivalled hardware range. And nowhere is this more the case than Stage 3, which brings together serious hardware with serious software.
As with all of our performance upgrades, drivability and reliability are right up there alongside outright performance. The Stage 3 kit, using the stock IHI housing ensures a low-lag spool on the turbo and great efficiency - to the benefit of power, smoothness and even economy.
One of the main reassurances of our Stage 3 is that all the turbocharger's factory mountings and connections are retained. No aftermarket fixings, no adaptors, no worries for tens of thousands of hard miles of enjoyment.

Other tuners have witnessed engine and turbo failures when pushing beyond the 500bhp mark. We don’t want this to happen to you, which is why OEM+ is offering a safer, reliable, turn-key package at safe peak power levels.
/// But still, what this means is true supercar performance levels. In the 4Motion cars, equipped with DSG gearbox, expect to clock around 3 seconds 0-60mph times (1-100kph), and quarter mile times in the mid-low 11 seconds.
/// And as always for OEM+, the driveability is just as important to our engineering brief as outright peak power. By retaining the stock IHI housing, turbo lag is almost non-existent.
/// Other MQB turbocharger upgrades on the market use a physically larger turbocharger to reach similar power to ours – however, the inevitable greater rotational inertia of the larger turbocharger resulting from the higher radius internals must lead to slower spool response times (assuming similar bearing packs are used), which impacts on turbo lag. The OEM+ Stage 3 uses ultra-high specification race-spec 360° thrust bearing packs which combined with our lightweight and fully-flowed internals reduces the boost threshold rpm to near that of the stock turbo, giving lightning-fast throttle responses.
/// Our engineers began the development process by CFD modelling the factory IS38 turbocharger, and quickly established that the housing capacity was capable of delivering the airflow for our target of over 500bhp capability.
/// The benefits to cost, reliability and peace of mind of retaining the original housing are multiple – for example: factory installation without additional manifold adaptors, factory oil-lines, plus the retention of full downpipe compatibility (our Stage 3 is compatible with every downpipe on the market, from our own, to stock to even a full decat pipe).
/// Clearly this is the smartest and most cost-effective solution. The next step of our development process was to entirely redesign and respecify the internals of the turbocharger.
/// High-specification race-spec 360° thrust bearing packs replace the failure-prone factory versions, specified to cope with very high speeds and temperatures whilst ensuring minimal friction. A complete new fully CNC machined turbine/compressor billet wheel has been developed, with cut-back high flow turbine wheel for higher flow capacity, plus increase shaft size. All of the internal flows inside the housing have been ported and smoothed to enhance all this increased airflow.
/// So rather than starting with an ‘off the shelf’ turbo unit as most other tuners appear to have done, the tolerances and specifications of our turbine and impeller wheels are therefore perfect for the MQB EA888 application, not simply a generic adaption of a different, bigger turbo.
/// Every single turbo is entirely built in the UK, balanced, checked and tested to in excess of its maximum operating speed on a Vane Flow Test Rig machine to ensure perfect quality each time. The wastegate is then calibrated for precise operation and control to ensure full integration with our OEM+ engine management system.
